| For many years now, Mission Partners International had been involved with shipping practical items of a humanitarian nature. The economies of the countries in the former Soviet Union are in such a state of disarray that the physical needs of most people are not being met. Many people are unemployed. Of those who do have jobs, many are underpaid or paid so sporadically that they cannot afford to support their families. Institutions such as orphanages and hospitals are also underfunded. Medicine, while available to those with money, is out of reach for the vast majority of the population. Several years ago, we heard that in one country alone over 30,000 people died of starvation and exposure in one winter. Into this chaos of life we attempt to bring some hope. We have made it our duty and calling to provide for as many of these practical needs as possible. We provide things such as clothing, personal items and food. Some things are shipped from Canada, some (such as food) are purchased and distributed overseas by our workers. If you would like to be involved in providing Humanitarian Aid to the former Soviet Union, please refer to our policies below. | |
| Humanitarian
Aid Policies Donations of new clothing and other new articles are welcome and very much needed. |
|
| All efforts will be taken to ship donations of humanitarian aid as soon as possible. However, shipping dates and methods of delivery will be set in accordance with MPI's schedule and when the funds are available. | |
| A fee of $100.00 for each large box (approx 2'x2'x3') of any humanitarian aid should accompany the donation to cover the costs of shipping it overseas. | |
| Any donations of humanitarian aid will be distributed by Mission Partners International personnel or its appointed representatives overseas as the needs present themselves and to those deemed 'most in need'. | |
| No person or country can be specified when donating humanitarian aid. MPI will decide where and to whom it is sent, depending on customs regulations and need at that time. | |
| Used clothing and other used household articles are no longer practical for MPI to ship overseas as humanitarian aid. Therefore, we cannot accept used items. | |
| Please package all donations in sturdy boxes and label each box accordingly with the contents. They may be delivered to MPI's warehouse during our hours of operation: 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. | |
| Other categories of acceptable items are personal hygiene items (shampoo, toothpaste, soap, etc), new bedding (blankets, afghans, etc), musical instruments, medical supplies (bandages, wheelchairs, crutches but no medicine or items with an expiry date). If in doubt, call our office and check before delivering your aid. | |
